Bones, the skinny dog
Bones, yes folks, he was skinny alright. He was so meager he looked like a roll of barbed wire covered by a table cloth. he was indeed living very far from the kitchen. He is a real "Junkpet".
It all started when my cousin George rescued the wretched beast from his neighbour who was about to drown him. After my cousin George, who is an ardent lover of dogs, gave the mutt his salvation, began feeding him and named him "BONES", man's best friend showed his appreciation by completely ignoring his former master because of the cruel treatment handed out by him.
Cousin George fed Bones twice per day with the most nutritious food and drinks recommended for dogs and humans, but Bones was apparently too far gone to look better than a "bag O' bones".
In fact, he looked like a bag of nails. He can well be described as full of bones, having prominent bones, big-boned, or even emaciated.
Standing straight was an arduous task for him as depicted above.
The neighbourhood residents would make fun of cousin George and his "maawga dawg" (a Jamaican term meaning skinny dog), George never gave up the fight to get Bones in tip-top shape.
Apart from the bony canine being famished, it was discovered that he had worms. That explained why the brute looked the way he did, even though he was putting away the victuals.
At this juncture, it was concluded that the decrepit one be de-wormed. Cousin George didn't care what type of worms he had. He didn't care if it were tapeworm, roundworm, hookworm, heartworm, intestinal worm, whipworm or even earthworms. He only knew that he had to do something.
A barrage of worm medicines raging from "Pyrantel pamoate" and "Fenbendazole" were brought in. The latter being a medication used to treat infestations with many parasites including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. It may also be used in the treatment of flukes and Giardia.
This deluge of dewormer continued for a few days during which time Bones must have passed ten thousand parisitic vermins of various sizes and colours. You've heard the term "opening a can of worms". Well, Bones was like "opening a bag of worms".
All during this ordeal, his appetite had waned so badly, he was really emaciated and decrepit. everyone thought he was gonna kick the bucket. The term "sight for sore eyes" got a new meaning. He was "not a pretty sight". Everyone thought this was the end of Bones, until the vet suggested " Lamp oil (fish oil), for veterinary use".) ( A blend of specially selected fish oils as a dietary supplement for animals) be given. Without any hesitation, this miracle cure was requisitioned and, in regulated doses, given to the mutt daily. for one week.
The lamp oil surely opened his appetite.
Bones was eating well again and began getting stronger as the days went by. As of this writing, he is doing well and walking and running around as any well-fed canine should.
Well, that's the story of bones the dog that was knocking on death's door and came back to life.
So you see folks, no matter how your pet is decrepit, with a little love, kindness and correct medication, they will survive. Just remember my cousin George, the ardent lover of dogs and Bones the skinny dog.
